It’s no secret that most interior designers today spend quite a bit of time online looking for inspiration, products for clients, or new sources for fabulous items. Lately, I’ve been finding inspiration from nurseries of the past – cribs from the 1800′s, vintage toys from the 1950′s and 60′s, and general style cues from former design trends.
Maybe it’s the new season of Mad Men or the return of fairy tales to popular culture, but I keep coming back to antiques, vintage and historical nurseries. I happened across these gorgeous illustrations of cribs, cradles, play tables and toys from an Etsy shop, KingPaper.
These are all from a book, “Folk Toys: Les Jouets Populaires” by Emanuel Hercik. The book is full of colorful and imaginative nursery drawings with lovely details, bright colors and lots of whimsy. I can’t help but wish that some of these beautiful creations were real (and for sale).
I couldn’t find much information about Emanuel Hercik, but by the looks of it, he definitely had the talent to be a furniture designer, if not a nursery designer himself. His drawings are a breath of fresh air.
