Wave Goodbye…

2011 was a very productive year for us, and we’ve now created over 80 nurseries and child spaces.  To make space for new rooms on our website, we have to say goodbye to some of our images.  Next week, we’ll be adding new photos of an adorable Western theme nursery, so we wanted to share this train theme boy’s room one more time, before removing it from our portfolio…

The starting point for this boy’s train theme bedroom was an idea we had to use actual wooden train tracks as chair rail style molding.

Throughout the room we placed train-theme elements, such as these beautiful chrome table lamps reminiscent of a train station.

The custom built hard-wood window seat was made to perfectly match the shutters and provide both storage and a fun place for the family to enjoy their space.

We finished off the room by adding custom towels and cute bath accessories to the attached bathroom.  Our goal was to create a fun and functional room for this train-lovin’ guy – mission accomplished.

Designers of the Smallest Kind

As interior designers, our eyes are trained to see line, shape, color, form and function in everything we come across.  Every so often, we come across something in the design world that makes us think, “how did they come up with that?”.  Usually it’s an innovative product or fabulously designed piece of furniture.  But take a drive down to your local miniature golf course, and you’ll see a whole world of dis-proportioned, off-kilter, wacky designs that somebody had to design.  It really makes you think – how did they come up with that idea?  And who actually builds these things?  Well, we found out, and they are incredibly imaginative, talented designers – just in a smaller world.

These masterpieces of mini-architecture are designed and built by SceneWorks, a small company out of Arkansas.   They create everything from small accessory pieces to entire cities – all either miniature, replica or facade.  It’s fascinating, really.  Some of these creations are so realistic, it seems like you could just walk up and open the front door.

Most of these are projects built for Linton’s Enchanted Gardens in Indiana, which has now been added to our “must-see” list.   Next time your drive by your neighborhood miniature golf course, just take a minute to reflect on the amount of creativity and hard work it takes to bring them to life!
