I’m guessing it won’t come as a shock to those who know me, but I happen to love flowers. I admit that during a college-age “hippie” phase I proudly declared that I found cut flowers unconscionable, but what can I say? I’ve changed. Lately it seems that everywhere I look, I’m surrounded by inspiring images of amazing flowers.
Gorgeous Flowers from Gucci's "Flora" Fragrance Ad Campaign
One of our nursery design clients made a special trip to her local source, to have these flowers on hand at a recent photo shoot.
Pink Roses from a Recent Nursery Design Project
An image that depicts pure happiness for me: flowers from my Dad, set against the backdrop of a chalkboard-painted wall where my sons play.
With all these beautiful images in mind, I’m thinking a fabulous, flowery fabric is in need of a major moment in an upcoming nursery design!
Several years ago, we had a nursery design client who asked us for a super comfortable sofa that she could put in her nursery near the crib so she could take little naps in there with her baby. So we got to work designing a completely custom upholstered sofa in a cleanable fabric that was also cozy and fit with the other nursery decor. Typically, the nursery is the smallest room in the house, but if you are lucky enough to have the space, consider adding a sofa!
This gorgeous piece is upholstered in an amazing pink and brown velvety fabric, and has casters on the legs so it can be easily moved around.
Feel like something more modern for your nursery? This super cozy sofa is a funky shape, but also very comfortable. The whole family can crawl up in this one!
Of course, we love using lots of color in our nursery designs, so it could be a lot of fun to add in a sofa with a crazy or colorful pattern. This one below is so kooky, but also so absolutely amazing!
We wouldn’t dare write a blog about nursery sofas without including one from one of our favorite children’s furniture designers, Jennifer DeLonge. This is a child-size sofa, which could be great in a nursery that is short on space. But don’t count on it for adult naps!
Although the design of a nursery or child’s room is something so personal that it should transcend trends, sometimes it feels pretty great to create a room that’s both beautiful and on-trend. Last week, we released images of a nursery design we recently completed in Orange County, featuring a bold color scheme of cobalt blue and lemon yellow paired with grey as the neutral tone (see more images HERE):
While browsing through magazines over the weekend, I couldn’t help but notice the abundance of evidence that this color palette is a major trend for Spring. In Style Magazine’s May issue describes how to pair grey as a neutral with both cobalt blue and lemon yellow.
Crate and Barrel’s recent catalog exclaims “Fashion’s hot new yellows are heating up interiors (even kitchens).” We’d just like to add “and nurseries” to that quote.
Notice the citrus yellow table lamp in this photo? Apparently West Elm is loving the cobalt and yellow color scheme too.
How great are these adorable animal photos?! These cute little pictures arrived with a recent shipment of artwork we ordered for one of our nursery design clients. For now, the actual artwork that we have received is super-top-secret. But, we just couldn’t help ourselves from sharing this postcard and the little bookmark.
My boys fought over these little baby animal photos, and then begged for some of the artwork for their own room. See more by this fantastic artist at Animal Print Shop, and keep an eye out for framed copies of these sweet photos in an upcoming nursery design.
We’ve been waiting a long time for people to finally embrace lucite, and well, our day has come! It only takes one incredibly influential celebrity, like Beyonce, to launch a trend. Needless to say, we were thrilled to find out that Beyonce and Jay-Z have designed their nursery for baby Blue Ivy using the Nurseryworks Vetro Crib, which is made entirely of lucite! But Beyonce isn’t the only one – Tony Romo and Robert Downey Jr. also have this amazingly modern baby crib in their nurseries.
We were instant fans of the Vetro Crib ever since it’s inception a some time ago, and just this past September they debuted the matching lucite glider – so chic!
This is definitely a trend that we hope to see get bigger and bigger, so we can use more lucite in our own nursery designs!
Award-winning Norwegian cradle-maker, so-ro, offers a stunningly sleek and amazingly thoughtful cradle design. A top pick for celebrity moms like Ali Landry, the so-ro cradle has been gaining quite a reputation.
One of the brilliant features is a back-and-forth rocking movement, instead of the side-to-side motion that most cradles have. Some research supports this idea that the forward and back motion is more soothing to a baby.
The material? Baltic Birch with Walnut or White finish. So chic and classic. It even comes in double size for twins!
We’re looking forward to a chance to get our hands on one of these beautiful cradles for an upcoming nursery design project!
2011 has been a very productive year for us thus far, and we’re completing gorgeous nurseries and fabulous children’s rooms at a rapid pace as the year comes to a close. To make space for new rooms on our website, we have to say goodbye to some of our images. This week, we’ll be adding new photos of a gorgeous nursery design in Orange County, so we wanted to share this gender neutral nursery one more time, before removing it from our portfolio…
We completed this gender neutral nursery for a wonderful family in Orange County. Although the end result may look understated, virtually every element in this room was customized. The end panels on the crib were made with fabric to match the custom sleeper sofa. The custom blackout curtain panels, custom crib bedding set, and other textiles including custom sofa pillows were all made from perfectly coordinated fabrics. We added new little knobs to the dresser, and had a custom rug made to tie the room together beautifully.
Whenever we’re creating a gender neutral nursery, we always try to leave space for some special items that can be added after the baby arrives. In this case, the custom monogram over the crib was made extra special by creating a unique wood molding shape around the block letters. Not long after we completed the nursery, this Orange County homeowner welcomed a healthy beautiful baby girl.
The beautiful residential photography was done by our friend, the extremely talented David Casas of Full Spectrum Photography in Orange County. We hope you enjoyed this last look at our “Eclectic Gender Neutral Nursery”, and stay tuned for a brand new room on our website soon!
After a whirlwind couple of weeks, we’re so happy to be able to sit down and write a blog about one of our latest celebrity nurseries. We created this nursery design for Mel B (Scary Spice of Spice Girl fame) in her Los Angeles home. Here’s a quick video showing the transformation, and below are all the juicy interior design details…
The gorgeous images of Mel B’s nursery are by the spectacularly talented David Casas of Full Spectrum Photography.
The gorgeous nursery interior design project in Mel B’s Los Angeles home started with the choice of silver nursery furniture by Bratt Decor.
Custom nursery artwork by Oopsy Daisy brings an element of Mel B’s British background into the beautiful Los Angeles space.
The beautiful nursery glider by Angel Song in lush lilac velvet is a beautiful spot for nursing and snuggling, and the cute little table by Restoration Hardware Baby & Child makes it convenient.
The grey silk fabric draped ceiling and custom blackout window treatments were created by the super-skilled team at Lily’s Custom Drapery and Upholstery. The sparkling pendant, which coordinates with the wall sconces and sparkling nursery chandelier were made by I Lite 4 U.
In the background of this photo, you can catch a glimpse of the beautiful stretched canvas artwork by Oopsy Daisy, and the spectacular hand painted wall murals by Spotted Moon Art & Design for Children.
Also on the crib wall is a beautiful crib crown, custom made by Lily’s Custom Upholstery & Drapery, especially for Mel B. And, as no crib is complete without a crib mattress, baby Madison is lucky enough to be resting her head on a Naturalmat mattress.
Completing the luxury nursery design is the fabulous silk crib bedding set, designed by Little Crown Interiors and made by Angel Song, and an adorable child’s sofa, also made by Angel Song.
As usual at this time of year, Little Crown Interiors just arrived back home (Los Angeles and Orange County) from the ABC Expo – the largest juvenile industry event of the year. Although it may not sound very glamorous, we actually had a great time and found some fabulous new discoveries at the event. One of the biggest trends we noticed is the much bigger (and much welcomed) presence of lucite and acrylic materials.
As long time mega-fans of lucite anything, we were beyond excited at last year’s show when Nurseryworks debuted the very first completely lucite crib, the Vetro. This year, to our utter delight, they created a corresponding match-made-in-heaven: a drop-dead, unbelievable lucite rocker.
A new-comer to the American crib market, ubabub, also struck our fancy with a line of cribs featuring breathable lucite panels. Delicate star details were cut out of the panel to allow for airflow as well as an added design element.
In the accessories department, we saw a few new and exciting things along the same lines. We discovered a new art company called Art Addiction, to which we can truly see ourselves becoming addicted. Instead of the standard canvas wrap art typical in nursery design, they took it one step further and printed their art onto acrylic panels with unbelievably vivid color and fantastic graphics. We can’t wait to make use of these in a nursery design!
Lastly, we were taken aback by the absolute genius and simplicity of acrylic picture frames by Wexel Art. Yes, we’ve seen products like this before, but these have a new edge – magnets. The laser cut acrylic panels have strong magnets on both sides to easily hold and change your artwork – brilliant!
That’s it for now, but stay tuned for more of our favorite new releases of the year.
Some babies are just lucky. Sunday night, we pulled up to the Los Angeles home of one of our nursery interior design clients, and took a moment to enjoy the beautiful scenery. This baby will not only have a beautiful nursery design, but a fantastic view as well. We count seeing the spectacular neighborhoods of Los Angeles and Orange Counties as one of the many reasons why we love our jobs so much!
While browsing through Architectural Digest‘s website, this amazing bathroom photo popped up on the sidebar. It was actually an advertisement for Velux Skylights, but the bathroom was so stunning! Large scale painted waves with a simple porcelain claw-foot bathtub make for a dreamy space to relax in and soak up some suds. Skylights are not something we typically incorporate into a nursery design, but fantastical bathrooms? Absolutely! For a little more fun, check out Velux’s website for a video about this stunner.

One of our favorite nursery design clients, Laila Ali, was on the red carpet at the 2011 ESPY awards on Wednesday, and she is looking better than ever. Her black and nude lace dress by Tadashi Shoji is absolutely stunning and flatters her body perfectly, as does her handsome husband, Curtis Conway. Laila Ali had her darling baby Sydney only about 4 months ago, and she is working hard on getting back in shape – well, it’s working! Check out how she’s doing it via her video blog on People.com. Congratulations Laila!

To say this week has been a nursery design whirlwind would be a bit of an understatement! Fresh off our amazing experience at the PLUSH show last Sunday, we are thrilled to announce the completion of our latest celebrity nursery. During the month of May, Little Crown Interiors worked energetically to complete a gorgeous nursery design for celebrity mom Laila Ali, just in time for a People Magazine photo shoot, for an article which is running in this week’s print edition.
People Online also ran a great article with more beautiful photos of the new mom and her gorgeous daughter.
Laila Ali’s baby nursery was also covered by LilSugar. We’ve been readers of the Sugar Network for years, and it’s been a long time dream to be featured on LilSugar - how amazing to be covered by both People Magazine and LilSugar in one week!!
And, we were so thrilled to share a fun little video and exclusive pictures of this celebrity interior design project with our friends at Project Nursery too!
You can see more of our photos of Laila Ali’s baby nursery on our website here, and check back on the Little Crown Interiors Nursery Culture blog for more behind the scenes photos about the install and details about this fun celebrity nursery project!
The whirlwind just never seems to stop around here! Today, the nursery designers of Little Crown Interiors are hard at work on our preparations for the PLUSH show on Sunday, June 5th at the Vibiana in Los Angeles. If you are a new or expecting Mom, be sure to get your tickets before they sell out – this is THE event for Los Angeles Moms.
At the PLUSH show – where over 700 new and expecting Moms are anticipated to attend – Little Crown Interiors will be setting up a super-fun, over the top nursery design. We’ll be unveiling the details in the coming 2 weeks, so be sure to stay tuned. However, today we’ve got a sneak peak for you.
Hot off the UPS truck, our artwork from the fabulous Lex Modern just arrived. We’ll be displaying the pieces in our nursery design at the show, and then raffling them off at the event. We’ll also be doing a huge giveaway of interior design services from Little Crown Interiors, and have fun giveaways at our display throughout the day.
Here’s a photo of nursery designer, Naomi Alon, hard at work drawing an 8-foot high seahorse. If you’re asking yourself “why is she drawing an 8-foot high seahorse?”, the answer is: “wait and see”! We’re displaying not one, but two huge seahorses…
And, if you haven’t seen the gorgeous Vibiana, where the PLUSH show is taking place, that’s reason enough to attend the show. A Los Angeles landmark, the Vibiana is absolutely stunning. We got to check it out recently – here’s Gerri Panebianco measuring the Little Crown Interiors space.
So, be sure to get your tickets & check back for more details on our display for the PLUSH show, as well as giveaways!!
It’s been a few days since our last Nursery Culture blog post, so today, we just wanted to share a few of the things that have been keeping us so busy… As you (hopefully) know, we regularly write for Project Nursery & this week, we featured an awesome, spankin’ new brand – SPI Baby. If you’re into nursery design and childrens’ rooms, you’ve got to check it out!
Our fantastic residential photographer – David of Full Spectrum Photo Studio in Orange County – sent us his photos of one of our new children’s room design projects. A dedicated webpage about this kid’s room design (which we recently completed in Orange County) is coming soon to our site – the room turned out to be absolutely fabulous!
We’re also hard at work on not just one celebrity nursery, but two celebrity nurseries – expect to see photos this June!
