Darker and richer colors are coming back to nursery design! We’ve noticed an increase in clients asking for deeper and more moody designs and we’re loving it. This E-Design client wanted not only a nursery with darker furniture, but also touches of Mid Century Modern and retro design.

This client had a file full of inspiration photos and there were lots of retro styles, rust oranges, sage greens and deep wood tones. She wanted to incorporate all of those colors to create a nursery design that was high contrast, bold, retro and fun.
We started by choosing the furniture, since that was going to be the foundation of the nursery. We chose this gorgeous Mid Century Modern style crib in a dark wood stain. The design of the crib also has some elements of Hollywood Regency, which our client also loved! The dresser was already owned by our client, but it was an ivory color. She wanted to have it refinished, so we suggested having it redone in the same wood stain as the crib.
Next we chose a moss green glider to bring in some of that green color she liked. We balanced it with the green globe chandelier and by adding a few plants around the room. We then added some rust orange blackout curtains on both windows for that pop of color. The curtains are also blackout, so they will function well for the room.
We kept the walls the existing light gray that she already had in her home so the home still felt consistent, and went with a neutral rug to ground the space. We added in some black and ivory elements to add even a little more pop and personality, and a few other textured elements like the bench and storage ottoman.
This nursery design came together beautifully, and we can’t wait to see how it turns out!
