One thing that’s been so fun to see over the last 15+ years of being a nursery designer is how the trends change and develop over time. There have certainly been some nursery design trends that we all wish never happened (chevron, anyone?), but there’s also so many that have been great to see and that I know will last.

I think one of the reasons for this is because social media, like Instagram and Pinterest, have given the average person such an insight into design. It’s much more accessible now, and there’s so much great content out there that serves as inspiration! So when this Virtual Nursery Design client asked for dark green wallpaper and warm wood furniture, we jumped right on it. Those are both nursery trends we can get behind!

This client wanted a dark green nursery design with neutrals, warm wood furniture and a slightly traditional look. We started, as always, by looking for the wallpaper since that generally sets the tone for the rest of the design. We found a gorgeous geometric pattern wallpaper that also had elements of traditional design and it worked perfectly.

From there, we started on the nursery furniture. We chose a wood crib with a rustic traditional feel, but that’s also transitional enough that it can work in a future nursery for another child. The coordinating dresser has a similar feel.

Since we went with a patterned wallpaper, we wanted to keep the rug fairly simple. We chose a neutral striped rug that has enough pattern to hide stains (so important in a nursery!), but that was soft enough not to compete with the wallpaper.

The glider is another super important piece of the nursery design, so we pulled an ivory wingback glider to fit with the traditional style of this nursery. The glider is paired with a matching ottoman. Then we pulled in lots of natural textured elements, like the fluted side table, neutral woven hamper, and rattan round mirror. Since the dresser had black hardware, we also balance that by bringing in some other black details like the black and white chandelier, sheep accent toy, and airplane art prints with a black background.

We love how this nursery design came out! We were able to use the nursery trends of dark green, warm wood furniture and traditional elements all in one space in a way that doesn’t feel “trendy”. And we’re so happy to report that the client loves it!
