We’ve completed another E-Design and it was a fun one! This client had a vision and a very unique piece of inspiration, which was a fluted stone bathroom vanity they had seen. They had a flair for the traditional and wanted a space filled with flowers, charm and texture to tell a timeless story. The unusual design inspiration added a bit of a challenge but knowing that they wanted wallpaper gave us somewhere to focus and set the tone.

This quaint floral wallpaper stood out to the client because the movement in it reminded them of the movement in the veining and feel of the bathroom vanity inspiration photo. A vanity may seem like an unconventional place to get design inspiration from, but it’s not impossible or uncommon to have a client come to us and say, “this is how I want the space to feel.” It was so great to be able to bring this idea to life!

Mauve nursery design

Tulip Woven Basket | Faux Fur Throw | Ivory Glider | Bunny Stuffed Animal | Boucle Round Ottoman | Tan Faux Fur Rug | Muted Floral Wallpaper | Gray Pillar Side Table | Ceramic Table Lamp | Gold Metal Crib | Fringe Wool Blanket | Flower Art | Floral Chandelier | Neutral Play Gym | Fluted Dresser | Gold Curved Mirror | Neutral Knotted Rug

We started with wallpaper because we knew this would be the focal point of the nursery. Because wallpaper can be such a huge part of a design, it can be the anchor that holds the rest of the space together. The clients wanted a rich and uniquely colored space that did not feel too cramped and dark. We brought in mauve tones to coordinate including a moody pink paint color by Farrow and Ball. We had to keep in mind that the clients are not fans of baby pink, but were open to different shades and this is the one they fell in love with! To keep with the traditional theme, we decided on a gold iron crib with an antiqued finish. The gold finish brings warmth and texture to the nursery.

Layering florals can make a space feel a little busy sometimes so we had to be mindful of the other decor items in the space. Choosing 3D artwork to go above the crib helped to bring in some depth and charm. Newer construction can sometimes lack the character of mature architecture so adding in textured design elements helps the space feel like it has been there for a while.

The clients loved fluted detailing and wanted to incorporate it into the design. The side table, ottoman and dresser were perfect opportunities to add a little of that fluted texture. Another way we brought in more texture was to layer the rugs for coziness and added dimension. Because the space is a pretty good size, layering the rugs also helped to define the sitting area from the rest of the nursery.

Updating the lighting in the nursery was a must! The ceilings in the space were a standard height so we decided on a floral chandelier that didn’t hang down too low. We also added two additional lamps to give options in task lighting adding since nurseries have many different lighting situations.

This mauve nursery design design came together and checked off all the boxes on the client’s list! Now, the space is ready to be settled into as it awaits the arrival of its newest little dweller.
