In case you haven’t noticed, green nurseries have been everywhere lately! I’ve been a nursery designer for almost 17 years, and I’ve been saying all along how under-represented green is in nursery design. And I’m talking deep moody greens, not the pastel or mint green that used to be the only option. Well, the times are finally changing! Darker and richer tones of green are finally being seen in nursery furniture and decor, and we couldn’t be happier!
This Virtual Design client wanted a nursery with just that—moody dark green. But they also wanted the room to feel modern and dramatic. We’ve worked with this client before on their first virtual nursery design, and that design was also very dramatic and colorful.

Since we really wanted to make a statement in this room, we decided to paint the entire room a deep rich green. There are two large windows, so the room gets plenty of natural light. To add even more drama, we also choose a cream and gold patterned wallpaper for the ceiling. We then added a geometric patterned rug with neutrals and green for that next-level boldness.
For the furniture, we brought in a few tones to give the room balance. The crib is gold to coordinate with the ceiling wallpaper. The dresser is a light wood for a natural touch, and the glider is off-white to keep the room from feeling heavy. We also added a fun patterned bench in an ochre color for more warmth, and a light wood side table to coordinate with the light wood dresser.

There is an attached bathroom which has black and white tile, so we decided to include just a hint of black in this nursery so it flows with the bathroom. We used a black mirror over the dresser, a black and white photograph over the crib and a black frame on the artwork by the bathroom door. And of course, the photograph over the crib will be framed with acrylic and very heavily secured.
Finally, we finished off the room with white blackout curtains. We didn’t want to do anything heavy here, so we kept the color white so it breaks up the green. The curtains in this nursery design are custom, but you can see all our favorites in our Ultimate Guide to Blackout Curtains post.
What do you think of this dramatic and bold nursery design? We just love how it turned out, and we’re so thankful that the clients loved their first nursery enough to trust us again with their second.
