The board and batten accent wall has been a trending feature in nursery design for quite some time! Basically, board and batten is just the method of using thin strips of wood to create paneling on a wall. Sometimes it’s used to create a more fun pattern like the more geometric design below.
This design board below was for an E-Design client that came to us wanting this style of board and batten for her nursery, so we created the rest of the design around that!
White Wood Dresser | Blue Table Lamp | Silver Rounded Mirror | Faux Olive Plant | White Crib | Cloud Mobile | White Drum Shade Light | Wooden Wall Letters | Grey Throw Blanket | Natural Linen Curtains | Wooden Floor Lamp | Wood Side Table | Grey Glider | Ivory Rope Pouf | Blue Ombre Rug | Blue Landscape Art
We always start E-Designs with the floor plan to make sure everything will fit, and to finalize the sizes of furniture for our shopping list. As you can see below, we had a long solid wall behind the crib to use as the board and batten accent wall. The glider fit perfectly in the corner by the windows, and we had enough space to squeeze in a full size dresser on the back wall.
Our client wanted the room to feel subtle and serene, but not overly neutral. We started with the slate blue board and batten wall, and then pulled in some other blue, neutral and wood accents. Their home had mostly silver accents, so we continued that metallic accent in the nursery as well. To balance the coolness of the silver, we warmed things up with some rich wood tones which you can see in the side table as well as the details on the crib and dresser. We found a rug with lots of blue and neutral tones to pull the whole design together.
All the items in the nursery get put into a shopping list that the client can click to see full details, pricing, safety notes and the purchasing link. We just love how this board and batten nursery came out!

What color and brand is the paint?
It’s Sherwin Williams Tradewind!
I love this blue wall color but the color doesn’t look like tradewind in my SW Fan Deck of paint colors. Tradewind looks more greenish blue and lighter. Is it just the lighting or could it be another color? I would love to use the color in the picture in my bedroom! Great job on this room! It looks great!!!
Hi there! This is just a concept board, not a photo, so the paint color may look different on various screens. Also, paint colors can look very different depending on your lighting, window placement, etc. I always recommend testing out colors in person first!
Is there a place that you got the board and batten wall moldings in a set or did you do those yourself?
Hi there! This was an E-Design, so we designed the accent wall and the client had it made locally by a contractor. I believe Etsy sells some sets like this though!
