The best feeling in the world is walking into a client’s home for their second project. We get to see the first nursery and how it’s changed, how the baby has grown up. And we get to see the new space for a family expanding yet again. This is the second nursery design we worked on for this client, and it was so wonderful to have the opportunity! You can see the first nursery design here—it’s neutral and coastal as well.

For the new nursery, our client wanted a space that flowed with the home and the previous nursery. That meant soft colors, lots of neutrals and a wallpaper accent wall. But this time, she wanted to add a little more color with some soft blue. We started by finding the right wallpaper—something serene and not too bold. This gorgeous watercolor wave wallpaper pattern is perfect!

We went with a light wood crib for that neutral vibe, and paired that with an ivory glider. We had some extra space by the balcony sliders (since they won’t be used), so we added a little Montessori style bookcase.

The rest of the nursery is painted white, so we wanted to add a little contrast with the dresser. We chose a white dresser with cane detailing for texture, and used a gold round mirror to help bounce the light around. Since the main rug was also very neutral, we added a fluffy faux sheepskin accent rug for more texture and coziness. The slate blue changing pad cover brings in a pop of color and balances the drapery and crib sheet.

If there’s one thing this client loves, it’s dogs. We included little touches of dog themed decor in her first nursery, and she wanted just a touch again in this nursery. We used a piece of vintage inspired art with a little dog on it above the crib. The pattern in the background also adds to the design of the room! We also added a sweet hanging mobile over the crib for more visual interest. We always hang mobiles high enough that they can’t be reached by the baby, even when standing.

One of the biggest statements in this nursery is the slate blue blackout drapery. The client already had blackout roman shades, but they weren’t fully blackout and she wanted to add drapery for drama. We went with slate blue to bring the whole design together and add some contrast.

We absolutely love how this nursery design came out, and love that we were able to help this client a second time! We can’t wait to see how her newest family member grows into his room.
