One of my all time favorite things about being a nursery designer is when we get to come back to design a nursery for a client’s second child. We had a great client here in Orange County, CA, a few years back and designed a neutral coastal nursery for her first daughter. Then, we recently completed another nursery design for her second, which you can see below. The photos are coming soon!

Our client wanted her second nursery to be fairly neutral as well to flow with their home (and the first nursery), and to include some blue tones as well. We did a really fun abstract wallpaper in her first nursery and she wanted to do something similar in the new one, just in a different color and pattern.

Neutral Nursery Design with Soft Blue Accents

Blue Watercolor Wallpaper |  Light Wood Crib | White Cane Dresser | Ivory Glider | Neutral Ottoman | Storage Side Table | Floor Bookshelf | Wood Floor Lamp | Rattan Chandelier | Scallop Linen Table Lamp | Beige Rug | Round Mirror | Dog Vintage Art Print 1 | Dog Vintage Art Print 2 | Faux Olive Tree | Large Neutral Planter | Woven Storage Hamper | Cream Mobile | Slate Blue Blackout Curtains

We started by finding that perfect pattern for the accent wall, and she fell in love with this wavy light blue wallpaper. Since her home has a subtle coastal vibe, the abstract wave made total sense. It’s super subtle, but still gives a nod to the ocean.

We filled the nursery neutral furniture, but wanted to bring in texture, especially since the other walls were white. The light wood crib looks great against the accent wallpaper, and the white cane dresser has a gorgeous caning detail to warm things up. The ivory glider is a neutral, but we paired it with a wood side table that also has caning to coordinate with the dresser. And as a bonus, the side table has hidden storage! We love incorporating storage into a nursery whenever possible.

To bring in even more texture and warmth, we added a rattan chandelier—it’s large enough to make a statement in the room and pulls everything together! There is also a woven storage hamper and a wood floor lamp.

Since the wallpaper had a blue accent, we wanted to add in more blue details to the nursery for balance. This nursery has a large sliding door with a roman shade, so we added custom slate blue blackout curtains on top for extra light protection. Whenever we design a nursery, window treatments are always an important part of the discussion.

We love how this nursery design turned out and we just completed the photoshoot as well, so you can look forward to those photos!
