I still remember the first time I placed one of those 5′ tall giraffes in a nursery—you know the one! Those extra large stuffed animals have such a fun and playful quality to them, not to mention kids love them! Because they are so prominent, they can actually be used as part of the design concept for the space. I think a lot of parents have a bit of a phobia about their children amassing hundreds of stuffed animals, but by using one huge animal instead, you might be able to get away with a smaller collection.
Of course, you’re not limited to just the giraffe! There are plenty of high quality options out there for other oversized stuffed animals, and I’ve rounded up some of my favorites that are not only fun but serve as a design element in the nursery.
Oversized Wool Felt Elephant from RH Baby & Child
This elephant is so chic and sophisticated. Its shape is modern, but it also retains a softness, which would make it fit right in to a more traditional nursery as well. The cool gray color will match practically any nursery decor.
Big Whale Stuffed Animal from Big Stuffed on Etsy
I absolutely fell in love with this big whale! There’s something about those big droopy eyes that is just adorable. This one would be great sitting on top of a bookshelf or dresser because of its more loungy shape.
White Tiger Giant Stuffed Animal from Melissa & Doug
This fun white tiger is in the same collection as that quintessential giraffe. He’s huge and huggable, and he’d make a much welcome guest in a safari themed nursery. I’ve also used this big guy in a very modern boy’s room, which seemed unexpected, but totally worked.
After years of using large stuffed animals, I still get requests for them from a lot of my design clients. They are sweet, fun, and add a whimsical touch to any kid’s space.
