Our year has been jam-packed with nursery E-Designs, and it’s been so fun to share them all on the blog! For this project, the client was on their third child and wanted to create a special nursery space. She had a fairly clear idea of what she wanted, but needed help streamlining her vision and making it a reality. She knew she wanted a space that had wallpaper, and was interested in the idea of doing it on both the walls and the ceiling for a higher contrast look. She also knew she wanted a subtle safari theme with a few animal touches, but nothing too overwhelming.

The floor plan of the room was a little tricky because of the large window and awkward layout, but we made it work. We were able to use the central wall for the crib, the nook area for the glider, and the remaining small wall for the dresser/changing area. We try to avoid putting a crib under a window if at all possible, and if we do, we always suggest certain safety precautions. In this space, the crib is actually not against the wall, but pulled out about 18″ (so the crib isn’t directly under the window). There are also heavy blackout curtains to block the sun and heat. And lastly, the design of the crib (with its high solid back) also helps to block the sun and protect the inside of the crib.

After the floor plan was decided, we started on choosing wallpaper since that would be the cornerstone of the nursery design. We found an amazing neutral wallpaper pattern with a nod to the animal/safari theme without actual animals. For the ceiling, we chose a textured grasscloth in a warmer neutral.

To keep the room light and bright, we stuck with white furniture and a light neutral glider, a few touches of gold, and a large neutral patterned rug. The subtle animal accents bring the room to life! We also added one of our favorite elements, a large stuffed giraffe, that has the perfect place in this room.
