Pink Floral Nursery With Peony Wall Mural

Pink Floral Nursery Design With Peony Wallpaper

I truly never get bored of a large floral wallpaper. I’ve done so many girl’s nurseries over the years with big bold florals, and they are still one of my favorites! This Virtual Nursery Design client wanted a soft, pink floral nursery that felt elegant and grown-up, with plenty of gold and a little sparkle. She also wanted to fit a daybed in the nursery. Adding a daybed is always a challenge, but luckily we were able to fit one in this space.

Choosing a Peony Wall Mural for This Pink Nursery

When a client wants a floral nursery, I love going big with the pattern. This client specifically asked for an oversized pattern, which is music to my ears. It makes the whole room feel like a painting. The large scale, soft pinks and touches of sage green are so gorgeous and work perfectly for anyone who wants an all-out pink nursery. We placed the wall mural on the wall behind the crib as an accent, so the gold crib has a pretty backdrop. Because the mural has so much going on, the rest of the room didn’t need too much decor. We kept things simple with the artwork by just including a piece over the daybed.

  • Designer Tip: With an oversized wall mural, pull your colors from the wallpaper itself since they will be such a statement in the room. Here we used the softest pink in the peonies for the walls, curtains and daybed, so the room feels layered and cohesive.

Fitting a Daybed in the Nursery

I get asked a lot to add a daybed or twin bed in a nursery and it doesn’t always work out because of space constraints. Many new parents want to be close to their baby at night, but depending on the size and layout of the room, it just might not be possible. A daybed is a great solution though if you can fit one! It works as a comfortable sofa during the day and a real bed at night, and it looks like part of the design. You can also easily transition your child into a twin bed since you already have one. We chose a daybed with a trundle mattress as well so this space is all set up for years to come.

Measure Before You Commit.

Daybeds, twin beds and even fold-up cots take up more floor space than most people expect. Map out the room and leave clear walkways between the crib, daybed and glider, especially for those middle-of-the-night trips. Crib safety is the priority!

Choose Performance Fabrics

Spills happen with kids, so look for a fabric thatโ€™s durable and easy to clean. If you’re not sure about using upholster altogether, you can always get a daybed that has a wood or metal frame. We used a wood frame in this Southern inspired nursery and filled it with bedding and pillows for a soft look.

Dress Your Daybed

Layer in regular bedding and a few throw pillows so it feels like a place to sit and relax. I also recommend a cozy adult sized throw blanket for those times when you want to cuddle on the bed, but don’t want to pull open the duvet cover.

Layering Pinks, Gold Accents & Soft Textures

Pink on pink on pink can easily become too much (although some would argue with you on that). We kept this nursery feeling more refined by using a very pale blush on the walls and a slightly deeper pink on the daybed and curtains, with creamy whites in between. Mixing in whites and golds adds depth. The floral mural is the star, so everything else can be fairly subtle. The white dresser, glider and nightstand give your eye a place to rest. Bow accents show up in the wall art, mirror, pillow, hamper and floor lamp, but never in a way that feels overdone. Small repeated details give the room personality.

We repeated the gold accents throughout the room so it feels intentional and balanced. For texture, we added a different types of fabrics with a rosette throw and bow pillow, blush blackout curtains on a gold rod, a distressed blush rug and a plush white accent rug at the foot of the daybed. The soft layers make the room feel cozy while the pink still takes centerstage.
